glass terrarium DIY

I am always finding new ways to arrange my succulents and creating new excuses to buy even more succulents, so of course I was eventually drawn to making my own terrarium :) . I have been ogling over all of the beautiful glass terrariums from moorea seal and urban outfitters for quite some time, so I was pretty excited when I found this hexagonal beauty at a vintage store down town for only 4 bucks! Isn't it gorgeous? I also found a small one to store my jewelry in on my dresser that is pretty adorable.

To build my terrarium I simply bought some aquarium rocks and grabbed a bag of soil and started layering them. I tried to do them slightly at an angle to add more visual interest. You could also add small layers of colorful rocks to add some color into your terrarium! I cut off some babies from some of my older succulent plants to put inside, though I was pretty tempted to buy one of these succulent flats... I avoided the temptation though... for now, go me! DIY pom pom table runner

We love the new pom pom table runners at Anthropologie soo much. They are so playful and cute and we just had to make one for our apartment. It was so easy to make! All we did was cut out a long piece of white fabric that would fit nicely on our coffee table (about 2.5 feet by 6 feet for ours) and hem in the edges. Then we found these adorable pom poms at Joann's Fabric! They had so many different colors which made it so hard to choose! We ended up picking pink and yellows to match the pillows that I made for our living room. We lined them up on either side and sewed them on with our sewing machine.  Our living room looks so adorable now! The new table runner inspired us to move a couple of things around and clean up a little (life happens, am I right?). We also re-styled our coffee table and couldn't be happier with it! All you have to do is add your most recent Kinfolk magazine or book and a few succulents and you are pretty much golden decor-wise as far as we are concerned.  What is on your coffee table? -a clover & a bee

chalkboard paint terracotta pots

If you have been following our blog for awhile you have probably figured out that we are sort of suckers for projects that use chalkboard paint. I just love the way chalkboards look and feel (perhaps it is the teacher in me ;) ) so I love any excuse to add chalkboard paint to a surface. Our bring the plants inside project was the perfect excuse to whip that can of paint out yet again.

I think my favorite part about these two new pots is that they will never look the same! As I get bored with them or as they inevitably get water on the outside thus smudging my beautiful designs I can change easily wipe them clean and start again! And of course, professor was glad to step in and help out during the photo taking process. That little stinker sat right in the background of my shot... I thought it was cute though.

Lately

Things seem to have slowed down to a sudden halt around here before they pick back up again. Suddenly the motivation is hard to find and a case of the lazys has kicked in... hard. In a week Erin and I will find ourselves drowning in school work, her back in her regular classes and me in my final semester...student teaching. We are both nervous and excited for what is to come, though we have found ourselves laying in our beds watching countless episodes of New Girl and Mad Men in anticipation of our future busyness. Darn you autoplay on netflix... darn you. This is allowing for a pretty solid reboot of our systems though, we will go back strong! How are the last few days/weeks of summer treating you? Leah

terracotta pot restyling tips

We love our terracotta pots, don't get us wrong. But when you have more than 10 of them in one room they start to look a little bit monotonous. Hence the need for a little decoration!
#1. Consider your materials! You could use paint, nail polish, glitter, mod podge, newspaper, spray paint, chalkboard paint, and so much more! There are literally endless ways you can decorate them. #2. Though we chose not to do this, consider decorating them before you put the plant in (seems obvious). I had to walk around the apartment holding one of them so that the paint that got on the bottom would dry. I looked a but silly. #3. Use painters tape or a pencil to create guidelines for yourself for neater lines and designs. #4. Be creative! 
Here are some of our favorite creative ways for decoration terracotta pots: Neon & Gold Leaf pots, Marbled in Nail Polish,  and Geometric Terracotta pots (using rubber bands!).
