Hey everyone! It's been a while, huh? The past few months have absolutely flown by, and all of the sudden here we are, one month away from graduation! This whole semester has just been a whirlwind, and our blog baby got a little neglected. But here we are, easing back into it. It's nice to realize that when things get hectic we can just take a step back and focus on other things. This blog is here for us to enjoy really, and a nice distraction from the craziness of life. But, when life gets just a little too crazy we have to take a break. I'm heading into the last few weeks of school now, and I present my senior project later this week... so it's finally actually happening! Graduation is so close! I'm really looking forward to having my family all out here with me then too.

Anyways, I figured it was about time I mentioned a little bit about what's going on in my life. For the next few weeks I'm just finishing up all of my schoolwork, and wrapping my mind around the idea of being done with college. What's next, you ask? I'll be staying in Kansas for the summer - of course I have to be here for Leah's wedding - but I'll be looking for a job in the New England area (Anyone have any openings for a cute math major with programming skills? wink wink). My boyfriend, Landon, and I are then hoping to move up there sometime in the fall!

Basically, these next few months are going to be a giant transition period for both Leah and I, but we'll try and keep you updated along the way.

DIY bleached & studded jean shorts

Finally some almost spring weather! To celebrate, we made these adorable bleach dipped & studded jean shorts. First of all, you cannot go wrong with a pair of cut off levi's and adding bleach and studs to them? Mmm... perfect.

You'll need: A pair of shorts (we suggest levi's), bleach, a bucket or bowl, and studs.



I rigged up a pretty nifty little contraption with my bucket and a hanger that ended up working really well. I hung my shorts from the hanger and filled up the bucket with bleach water so that it hit the shorts about half way up. I then let them sit for several hours, until they were as light as I wanted them to be. (May we suggest using the rest of your bleach water to clean your bathroom? Leah did this, and was able to clean up her dorm showers after they were caked with mud from mudslam).

Once your shorts are done give them a good wash in the ole' washing machine and dry them. You can then add your studs in any design you like! I did a line across each back pocket and a couple in the front.




We seriously love how they turned out! Since we share clothes, we can't wait to wear them all of the time this summer. We will of course have to take turns, so hopefully it won't lead to any arguments:). Sharing clothes is awesome! Erin and I are so excited to move into our apartment (NEXT WEEK!) and have each other and each other's closets so close!

Over the Weekend: A spring picnic (a recipe too!)

Over the weekend, while erin was hard at work, my roommate emma and I drove out to david's land to take pictures for one of my photography assignments. We figured while we were out in the country it was most definitely the perfect excuse to have a spring inspired picnic!




We had such a wonderful time. It was still a bit chilly and pretty windy, but emma and I were way past due on some one on one roommate bonding time so it was well worth it. We ended up getting some pretty awesome pictures for my assignment and our bellies were full of awesome food.

We ate...

Springtime tropical salad:
1 pineapple
2 red peppers
2 avocados
a bundle of green onions
greens from your garden (we got cale and spinach from emma's parents garden)
juice of two limes
olive oil & salt to taste

chop and mix your greens and veggies and throw in a large bowl. Then add lime juice, olive oil, and salt and stir!


Strawberry Avocado Baguette Bites:
1 wheat baguette
a box of strawberries
goat cheese
1 avocado

slice your baguette into one inch sections and spread a layer of goat cheese on to each. Then add a thin slice of strawberry and avocado to each one.

What a wonderful way to spend a saturday afternoon and unwind from the week! I hope you had a wonderful weekend as well!

If you know erin and I at all you know that plants make us a little bit weak in the knees (I in particular get weak in the knees for succulents...). Perhaps it is the bright colors, adorable shapes, sweet smells, and the fact that they provide you with air to breathe. Who knows for sure.

On Good Friday last week, in lieu of our day off from school (more like Great Friday, am I right?) and the spectacular weather, erin and I went to the greenhouse in town and picked up a couple of plants to put in our dorm rooms. Plants have an amazing power to distract you from how crazy school can be, especially now that we are in the last stretch!

We plan to start a little garden at our apartment this summer, so we will be back by this green house for sure! Our goal is to have as many hanging plants, succulents, flowers, herbs, and vegetables as possible, in and outside of the apartment. We think plants are one of the best ways to make your apartment feel more like a home.
