Crux Painted Terracotta Pot

I am incredibly into fixing up my old terracotta pots with a little bit of paint-if you haven't noticed. I made a few in the past on our blog, but hadn't tried out one of my new favorite design trends, crux! It was so easy to do! I just first applied two coats of white to the entire outside and finished it off with some quick brushes with black paint. I love the way it turned out!
Almost all of my little plants have found their way inside thanks to project "bring the plants inside." I only have a few more projects to go on this series!
What design trends have you been really into lately?

chalkboard paint terracotta pots

chalkboard paint terracotta pots chalkboard paint terracotta pots chalkboard paint terracotta pots

If you have been following our blog for awhile you have probably figured out that we are sort of suckers for projects that use chalkboard paint. I just love the way chalkboards look and feel (perhaps it is the teacher in me ;) ) so I love any excuse to add chalkboard paint to a surface. Our bring the plants inside project was the perfect excuse to whip that can of paint out yet again.

I think my favorite part about these two new pots is that they will never look the same! As I get bored with them or as they inevitably get water on the outside thus smudging my beautiful designs I can change easily wipe them clean and start again! And of course, professor was glad to step in and help out during the photo taking process. That little stinker sat right in the background of my shot... I thought it was cute though.

You can check out our other projects with chalkboard paint here and our other ideas in our bring the plants inside project here.

What designs would you add with chalk?

my little baby succulents

succulent propogation succulent propagation update

Do you remember these tiny little succulent startings from the beginning of the summer? They have grown so much since the last time I mentioned them last. They went from just being little old succulent leaves with tiny pink roots to adorable miniature independent succulent plants. I even gave them their own little potted homes around our back patio.

I was amazed to see how much they would grow in just a couple of months! I can't wait to keep propagating them each summer while the weather is hot and conducive to succulent growth. Until next summer I am going to have to start finding these little ones homes around our tiny apartment! If only I could knock out a few more windows...

Lately

lately lately lately lately lately
Things seem to have slowed down to a sudden halt around here before they pick back up again. Suddenly the motivation is hard to find and a case of the lazys has kicked in... hard. In a week Erin and I will find ourselves drowning in school work, her back in her regular classes and me in my final semester...student teaching. We are both nervous and excited for what is to come, though we have found ourselves laying in our beds watching countless episodes of New Girl and Mad Men in anticipation of our future busyness. Darn you autoplay on netflix... darn you. This is allowing for a pretty solid reboot of our systems though, we will go back strong!
How are the last few days/weeks of summer treating you?

succulent propagation update!

succulent propagation update succulent propagation update succulent propagation update

^^check out this one!! To be fair, it was already starting when I bought its mother plant...

succulent propagation update survivors and new attempts

^^The first attempt survivors and second attempt beginnings

Its been a few weeks since we started our succulent propagation project and it is going just as predicted! The article we read told us that only about half would make it, but by a couple weeks our little chubby succulent leaves would have neon pink roots. While we are sad that some little guys didn't make it we are so pumped about our new plants. I squealed with joy when I first saw the the tiny roots growing. It is a very exciting process! I can't wait to see what comes of it and I already have started more. Our house is going to be full of plants come Christmas time. Stuffed to the very brim..

if you could multiply your succulents...

I have taken our obsession love of succulents to a new level. A level I wasn't sure if I would ever get to, but alas, the day has come. It is a well known fact amongst my friends that I love succulents, so it should be of no surprise that I would take any chance to have even more.

The other day Erin and I popped into Dillons for a few apartment things, things like protein powder and such, and walked back out with our arms full of succulents. My personal favorite was the one called baby toes. It is seriously hysterical looking, but I am just getting off topic.

A long time ago I read this article about succulent propagation and fell in love with the idea of using my succulents to make even more succulents. An endless supply of the cutest plant species on earth? Yes please. At the time I didn't know when my dream would actually come true. But good news my friends, that day is today. Though I should note that the article said it will take months and only half will actually work IF I happened to do it right....

I'm excited anyways... I will keep you all updated:)
