Home for the Holidays

“It’s a funny thing coming home. Nothing changes. Everything looks the same, feels the same, even smells the same. You realize what’s changed is you.” — F. Scott Fitzgerald

It's always nice to come back home to Salem. As soon as I walk out of the airport in Portland I can tell I'm home. The air just smells different.

Being home is a weird sudden break from the busy-ness of my life usually. I get to sleep in, but end up waking up early anyways because of the time change. I get to eat the wonderful food my mom cooks. My addiction to Oregon's awesome Goodwill's is fulfilled. I get to warm up by the wood stove. I get to be with my family and friends whom I haven't seen in a year. I have time to see them, and also time to spend alone and not feel guilty about not having enough time. Introvert's paradise.

This morning the fog on the river was so incredibly beautiful that I couldn't resist heading over to the walking bridge and getting some of these shots. Totally worth it. Hope everyone is enjoying their holidays and getting to spend time with the ones they love!

a weekend getaway

While Erin was headed to her conference in Kansas City I was heading home to visit my parents for the first time in what feels like ages. I popped the seat warmers on in my car, strapped the dog in, and headed off for a relaxing weekend away.

It was the perfect weekend. My mom fixed me up her traditional flax seed salmon and "smashed" potatoes on Friday night. I am going to have to snag that recipe from her because it is absolutely delicious.

On Saturday my mom and I drove up to watch my dad coach a few soccer games. He coaches the most adorable little 9 year old girls. I got way into the game and ended up being a little louder than the parents were even being! We also stopped and got dinner with my grandparents and my cousin. It is always so nice to see family!

On Sunday we drove around and did a few errands, and of course stopped at the coffee shop, Radinas, for awhile, before I drove home. It is always such a blessing to see my parents. I can't wait for Thanksgiving now!

this little home of ours--living room shapshots

We are currently in that wonderful state of comfort in this little home we share. It is always such a blessing to come home to a decorated home and after a long day of work, I love coming home to my puppy dancing on his back feet in order to be closer to my face and venture in farther to find that Erin has cooked me a delicious meal as well as cookies to eat afterwards (I think she is trying to fatten me up).

My favorite room of the house, as far as decor goes, is most definitely our living room. It is probably the room we have spent the most time on together decorating. It is just so cozy and inviting with all of the plants and artwork. I love curl up on our vintage purple sofa with a cup of coffee and look at all of the delights around the room.

Do you have a favorite room in your house?
